This tour can easily be customised to be a family friendly tour. None of the destinations are malaria endemic areas and many of the culinary activities can be substituted with family friendly activities and sightseeing, even in the Cape Winelands. Madikwe Game Reserve is one of South Africa’s popular Big 5 safari destinations and it happens to be especially family friendly as there’s no need for malarial prophylactics. Most lodges in Madikwe Game Reserve welcome children and offer specially designed child-friendly programmes to keep the little ones busy and to help them really enjoy their safari experience, too.

Useful things to know before you embark on this amazing journey
All year round is good for this tour. December – March is known as the “Green Season” in Madikwe and even though there is a chance of the occasional scattered thunder shower, it is a very beautiful time of the year to visit. It is also the main birding season where migratory species can also be seen as well as many baby animals. Cape Town’s main rainy season is opposite to the other two destinations and June-Aug is usually the wettest and coldest. What can be better than having an amazing meal in a restaurant with a fireplace.
All locations on this tour are malaria-free.
Madikwe is a 75,000-hectare reserve located in a transition zone between the Lowveld bushveld and the Kalahari thornveld, where several rare species from both ecosystems naturally occur. In fact, Madikwe is one of the few reserves in southern Africa where the desert adapted Kalahari Gemsbok and Springbok share territory and rare species such as the Brown Hyena and the Aardwolf can be found. You will be able to see all the usual Big 5 but also other species which are not usually found in the bushveld areas such as Greater Kruger National Park making for exceptional wildlife encounters.
With the exception of Kosher or Halal requirements, most properties are able to cater for all dietary preferences. Advance notice is recommended.
